  • Based on your experience, can men and women ever just be friends?

I think it depends on a lot of things (i.e. age, degree/type of friendship, etc.) but truth be told, other things seem to get in the way more often than not.

Now, I do have a guy friend who is significantly older than me & married and there never has been and never will be any of “those” problems there… But I’ve also had a couple of friends who I’d known practically all of my life.  Guys close to my age.  And it was like…there just came a point when one of us developed feelings the other didn’t and things got messy somehow.

Regardless, if you’re one of those people (& not gay :o )) who just tends to get along better with the opposite sex and doesn’t see any of those issues the rest of us struggle with, more power to ya.

I just answered this Featured Question, you can answer it too!

  • i leave in less than an hour for my first day of work.  i feel like a little kid–nervous on the first day of school.  seriously.  sad, right?

it’s gonna be a lil weird for a while cuz i’ll be workin at the highland square branch but it’s not technically open yet.  so i guess i go to tallmadge m-w then back at good ol’ kenmore thurs & fri.  the following week we (the HS folks) will be moving stuff in & arranging all of the materials at the branch and then we’ll open shortly after that.  i’m pretty excited.  highland square will def. be a cool place to work.  yay!

  • blah

so i was sick all weekend.  not just like *cough* *cough* sick or even like “o, man.  my head really hurts” sick.  but more like “keep a path clear from here to the bathroom at all costs or be prepared to clean a nasty mess off the floor” sick.  seriously.  it was bad.  couldn’t keep anything down.  from the time i woke up friday morning (7.30) until about 9 or 10 last night all i had to eat was a few saltine crackers and a bowl of soup.  not that it stayed in my body very long… but..y’know.  and then until about an hour ago i’d only been able to keep a couple of pieces of cheese down.

    good times.

i think i’m feeling better now, though, so we’ll see how the night goes.  friday night and last i woke up a few times  to run to the bathroom but i really need to go to work tomorrow so i’m crossing all my fingers.  my toes, too.

one good thing.  today at least, i was able to [semi-comfortably] get some more reading done.  i haven’t been reading anything too “important” or “deep” lately but i think i’m ok with that–i spent 3 1/2 years reading what other people told me to in college and 13 years before that in the good ol’ APS (did we really read in kindergarten?).  it’s about time i’m able to just read for the sake of reading, right?  and that’s not to say that i don’t want to read more of the challenging novels/bios/nonfic selections but for now…i’m cool with whatever.  and just because i don’t have much else to brag about right now–because apparently i went to college so i could be a student assistant/babysitter for the rest of my life–at last count i’ve read 29 books since 01-01-07.  that’s pretty decent, if i do say so myself.  maybe not the toughest of reads all the time but not trash either.  i’m happy with that.

    i’m a dork.  i freely admit this.

but for now.  this dork must retire to her sleeping quarters with the hopes of rising with the sun fully rested, fully well, and fully ready for work.

    peace–

  • update-ish

i like cooking & baking.  i’m currently making a mess of my kitchen by concocting Gateau aux Pommes (some sort of French fresh apple cake).  it smells pretty good but we’ll just have to wait a bit to see how it tastes.

in other news.  i *still* don’t have a full time job.  i’m thinking of applying to an Americorps position in VA.  i’ll need to get some more details though.  if the stipend isn’t enough, there’s a possibility i would need a part-time job on top of it to pay my bills.  i think it would be pretty cool though–it’s actually teaching ESL.  Good stuff.  in the mean time, i’m going to continue to interview for library jobs.  and more immediate–for a while at least, i think i’m going to be babysitting more.  Moniza offered me $10/hour if i’d be able to work 5 days/week instead of my current $8/hr for 3 days/week.  this is what i went to school for?  to work as a *student* assistant and babysit?  freakin awesome.

well, before i go, let me just say that i pulled the Gateau aux Pommes out and tried a little piece.  yum.
